 Just what I needed!Sep 04, 2009
A complete resource for Windows Server 2008. I am just starting out as a Systems Administrator and this set of books will be an excellent reference tool. As I begin Microsoft training and throughout the certification process, I expect to reach for this set of books time and time again. Thank you for offering at such a great price.

If you're going to plunk down $249 for this 4000-page reskit, you should add Stanek's exceptional $59 1500-page Windows Server 2008 Inside Out. The reskit books are meaty but don't always have the most relevant, useful info throughout. Frequently, there are whole chapters, appendixes, and such I never refer to or read. In contrast, Stanek's book is extensive, relavent, and useful from start to finish. I use the reskit books to lookup things periodically and use Stanek's book frequently even after having read it cover to cover. Stanek's book is on my desk. The reskit is on my bookshelf.
In the reskit, you get five books
Windows Administration Resource kit, a rather weak book for general administrations
Windows PowerShell Scripting guide, a basic reference for PowerShell
Windows Active Directory Resource kit, a general Active Directory reference
Networking and Network Access Protocol guide, a solid look at NAP, 802.11, VPN, not so good look at everything else
Internet Information services 7 resource kit, a reference resource for IIS
Windows Server 2008 security resource kit, an okay but rather short reference for security.
You also get a CD with scripts and tools and such, but gone are the days when the tools were as valuable as the books. These are just extras in this kit as the real tools are now part of Windows and you don't need to buy them anymore.
If you already plunked down the big bucks for this, you'll likely use it. Add Windows Server 2008 Inside Out to get a more complete library.
If you haven't plunked down the big bucks, a much better set of books for about the same:

I'm going on faith here for Stanek's PS and AD books, but if it's anything like his others they'll be well worth it.
